Highlighting can give your hair added dimension and manufacture you look more vibrant and youthful. When done incorrectly it can be a catastrophe. Before taking the step of highlighting your hair, it’s urgent to be aware of all the options available to you as well as what will flatter your hair and complexion. Unfortunately, many women jump into coloring or highlighting their hair without doing their research which results in less than pleasing final results. Here are some of the mistakes women build when highlighting their hair:
Going Too Light
Highlighting is meant to enhance your natural hair shade, not completely change the color. Highlighted hair looks best when subtle gradations of color are skillfully woven into your hair to add depth and dimension. whether you have dark brown hair, it’s not going to be flattering to add platinum blonde highlights. The contrast is just too great. With highlighting, subtle is often better.
Going Too Chunky
Big chunky highlights are a difficult look to carry off and nearly always look unnatural. While that may be an interesting style for a special occasion, will you want to wear it on a daily basis to the office? Consider whether you might be happier with a more natural look particularly whether you work in a conservative environment. Definitely stay absent from chunks of colors not found in nature such as bright orange or purple. that look is best saved for Halloween.
Choosing the Wrong Color
You’ll be happier with your highlighting whether you choose a color that compliments your complexion. In general colors with beige or ash undertones aren’t flattering to most skin tones. Try adding warmer shades of highlights with subtle hints of gold to look more youthful and less artificial. Before making a big change, it’s best to refer with a color specialist to determine which shades will work best with your specific skin tone.
Allowing Roots to Show
Nothing is more unflattering than highlighted hair with two inches of dark roots. whether you choose highlights that are more than two to three shades lighter than your natural hair, upkeep may be a problem. Do you really want to highlight your hair every six weeks? whether you keep your highlights shut in shade to your natural hair color, you’ll require less upkeep and your roots won’t be as obvious.
Doing it Yourself
Highlighting can be a tricky proposition since you’re adding various gradations of color. Unless you’re a hairdresser, you’re probably best getting your highlighting done by a professional. A hairdresser can help you choose the shades that are right for your skin and hair. Although it may be more expensive to use the services of a hair salon, it can be even more costly trying to right a poorly done highlighting job.
If you’re considering hair highlighting, consider seeking the advice of a licensed hair color specialist. It could save you a lot of money and headaches.

I’d like to share a little secret with you, move in a little closer…. It’s not that strange to find women fitting gray earlier and more often than ever before. Stress, anxiety and that darn heredity have left many of us wondering what precisely is our natural hair color any who? A sad state of affairs,to be certain, to have to depend on L’Oreal or Clairol to define our most glorious asset. Unfortunately, it’s just one more thing we have to add on the list of beauty rituals. Count it among, plumping our lips with the latest collagen craze or lifting our skin with the most advanced magical skill. Dyeing our hair should be forever considered a vitally vital task to our overall beauty regime.
Some will argue that going natural would probably be a bit more nourishing for our soul. After all, gray is endearing, sophisticated and distinguished. I would agree whether we were discussing Sean Connery or the very good-looking Phil Donahue. But, let’s get real here, gray can take a drastic toll on sex appeal. Pure and simple. Gray reminds most of sweet silver-haired grannies of yesteryear. Gray can additionally conjure up past images of dowdy librarians and gracious English teachers. I don’t know about you all, but I’d like to keep heads turning until my final living breath. I, absolutely, do know how shallow I’m coming off. I additionally do know, that whether we’re being honest here, I stand in the majority.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I would like to be beheld in sensual glances. I would like my gorgeous dark curly hair to be admired, to be imagined in fantasies real and make-believe. I would like to hold on to my lasting youth with clenched hands and until my final visible breath. Too much to ask? Perhaps. Although, I’ll take my chances in that superficial world we’ve all come to know and love.
Blond ambition, fire-red glamour and incredible chestnut manes adorn us, wrap us in confidence and seal our first impressions. Hair dye is only fitting more technologically advanced and has even been touted as allowing our hair to become even more healthy than ever before. Possibly, the greatest beauty invention of our date or at least mine. I bow to the genius who invented something so simple yet so powerfully illuminating. Frosting, highlighting, low-lights, bleaching and glossing. Musical words that ring sweet. To dye or not to dye? There really is not question. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll be the 99 year old woman getting into the jag with cascading aburn tresses and 6-inch stillheto heels.
