SMP Over the Years?

May 18th, 2012 at 09:53pm Under Green+ Hair Loss

How does SMP look like after 5 years? 10 years or 20 years down the road. I’ve seen some really bad SMP jobs on YouTube where the color looks smeared all over the scalp. Maybe these SMP jobs were done by novices or bad tattoo artists but if only a handful of Dr’s do it and do it well. How can there be a guarantee that a Dr with proficiency will be around in 20 years performing SMP when I need a touch up? I am interested in the procedure but worried that the color fades too easily or the dots expand to form a cloudy look. The bad SMP jobs on YouTube make the head look like there is a permanent giant bruise on the entire head. Looks like some sort of disfigurement. Has any of your SMP patients been unhappy with the results after so many years? We have been performing Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) now for two years, so I can not address a longer time frame. I have seen one patient who had scalp tattoos done elsewhere about 9 years ago and he touched it up often (possibly too often). His scalp took on the appearance of smeared color. The black ink turned green and when it covered the entire scalp, the scalp appeared green. Certainly, it was not a good end result. He was experimented on, so his result probably reflected the many techniques that evolved and possibly many different pigments. With regard to our practice, yes, we have had dissatisfied patients. In analyzing the reason for the dissatisfaction, we made to the conclusion that: (a) they really did not understand what they were getting, (b) they were expecting Toppik level concealers which produces better camouflage and are darker, (c) they noticed irregularities in the ‘dots’ where some of them were larger than others, (d) the pigments faded irregularly, (e) they came from long distances and needed touch-ups that took another trip to California and (f) the color changes in the black to a green or blue tint was more than they expected to see. A few patients tried to push us to repeat the process more times than we wanted to do, and early in our experience we wanted to make them happy, so we were swayed by their desire far more than we should have been. Now, we stick to our guns and keep to what we believe is in the best long-term interest of the patient. Even though we still want to make the accommodations that will make the patients happy, we will not be influenced to do anything that will lead to a complication or poor result. We have addressed these complaints by spending a huge amount of time with each prospective patient, explaining every detail of the process and expectations. The patients seemed to be more satisfied with the end results. Tags: smp , pigment , tattoo , hairloss , hair loss

Why You’ll Love to Use the Color Wheel in Your Makeup Routine

May 14th, 2012 at 11:10am Under Green+ Personal Care

The color wheel is used by professional makeup artists time and time again to help disguise discoloration on the skin, as well as find the best shadows for any eye color. Learn how to use this tool at home to raise your application skills to megastar status. Emphasis: Color theory can be used to bring out your best colorful feature – your eyes. When you arrange two colors from the opposite side of the wheel next to each other, it makes them both pop. So blue-eyed beauties should look to orange and golden-toned shadows and liners. Green-eyed girls look to purple or rosy shades for an extra bright look. And for the brown-eyed babes, practically every color can work for you. Corrections: If you’re looking to reduce the appearance of a mark, dark spot, or pimple, turn to a colored primer or concealer to balance out the area. So, if you’re attempting to shade in visible blue under-eye veins, reach for an orange concealer. Have rosacea or a red-toned pimple? Dab on a bit of green primer to erase it. Just remember: put an unwanted color in its place by looking to the opposite side of the wheel to find its balancing match. Source: Flickr User glovsky225

How to Make Yellow Concealer Work For You

May 6th, 2012 at 01:00pm Under Green+ Personal Care

A few weeks ago, Kim Kardashian posted an Instagram of herself getting her makeup done, complete with yellow streaks over her entire face. The reason? Yellow primer is a complexion-brightening corrector that helps even out the tone of the skin prefoundation. But that’s not all. Now that we have you covered (heh) on the benefits of green correctors and pink correctors tones, let’s take a closer look at the warming, brightening capabilities of yellow. You glow, girl : A yellow powder or primer can add an instant glow to the skin, create a lightening effect, and help to erase the signs of fatigue. How can you not love that? Get the red out : Yellow helps to soften and balance out pink tones, and it’s also great to use for neutralizing pink-toned blemishes and fading out under-eye circles. Yellow correctors, when blended onto the eyelids, create a clean slate on which you can apply your eye makeup. Try : Benefit’s Lemon-Aid ($20), Nyx ‘s Hi Definition Photo Concealer Wand in Yellow ($5), or Napoleon Perdis ‘s Mighty Concealer Pen in Mellow Yellow ($29). Source: Flickr User Linda Cronin

It’s Easy Being Green (If You’re Talking Concealer)

May 3rd, 2012 at 06:59pm Under Green+ Personal Care

Ever been confused by the multicolored concealer palettes you see at the stores? The confusion stops here. Over the next few days, let’s explore the art of these color-correcting concealers, starting with green. Wicked Witch of the West? Don’t think so, my pretties. When it comes to color correcting, it’s all about using the color wheel to figure out a balance. Green, for instance, is opposite of red on the color wheel. In theory, it will neutralize any unwanted red hues from things like acne, rosacea, birthmarks, port-wine stains, ruddiness, pimples, and even scars. But do green correcting sticks, powders, and primers work? When it comes down to it, yes, but to find out a few ways to avoid looking as if you’ve been hit with a bad case of food poisoning, just read more.

Green Tea and DHT

May 1st, 2012 at 03:49pm Under Green+ Hair Loss

My question regards green tea. We all know – or should know by now – that green tea is packed with great nutrients and health benefits, but how about hair loss. It’s hard to find a proper answer. Some sources say it reduces DHT, some say it increases it. What’s your view? Many, many thanks, it’d be great to enjoy my cup of green tea again without worrying. We’ve answered a similar question before — here . In my opinion, green tea doesn’t cause or prevent hair loss. I am sure if you do enough research on the web you will find conflicting reports on almost anything. You can continue enjoying your cup of green tea. Tags: green tea , dht , hairloss , hair loss

I Stopped Seeing Hair in the Drain After Being on Propecia

April 23rd, 2012 at 09:18pm Under Green+ Hair Loss

I’m 25yo and been on generic Fin 1.25 (get it from walgreens) for nearly for 4 years! I have early frontal hair loss confirmed by Dr.Bernstein. Before Propecia I had tons of hairs in the shower plug and I have medium long hair so that would make it more obvious. Ever since starting Propecia my hair remained exactly the same at least to my eye. After about 1 or so the hairs in the shower stopped. I would have little or none at all! From time to time I see hairs there again but not much. Now for the past week I see hairs again. Every time it happens I’m worried. Why does it happen? Is my MPB just accelerating during those times or is it just some shedding? The average person loses 100-150 hairs per day in the normal daily hair cycle (these hair fall out as they go through the catagen phase). That means that every year we will lose 35,000+ hairs and regrow the same amount from new hair cycles that start up in anagen. As I’ve written before, Propecia doesn’t stop the normal hair cycling… so is it possible that you had some styling product in your hair that trapped these cycling hairs from falling out until you took a shower? Or did you wear a hat that trapped some hairs? Or was it particularly humid, causing your hairs to stick to your scalp? I really have no true explanation for what you’re seeing and I could make a dozen guesses, but I suppose it is something you should monitor if you’re concerned. You should also consider paying a visit to Dr. Bernstein for a follow-up examination if it’s been some time since you’ve seen him. Tags: propecia , finasteride , hairloss , hair loss , hair cycle
