Electrolysis or Laser Hair Removal

Often we are asked about the difference between laser hair removal and electrolysis hair removal. Anyone who has experienced both treatments can tell you that the difference is in effectiveness and speed.

Electrolysis is usually performed by an esthetician. During this treatment, a needle is inserted into each hair follicle along side the shaft of the hair. An electrical impulse is then triggered at the same time the hair is tweezed. The hair shaft is then removed. The follicle has been killed by the electrical shock it received. Because the follicle itself is now dead there will not be any new hair growth. The process of electrolysis is a slow one because of the fact that each hair must be dealt with individually. Electrolysis will require several visits to take care of all unwanted hair. If you are treating a large area such as your legs or back, then electrolysis becomes very time consuming.

Some pain is associated with electrolysis. The electrical shock used is not really big, but because the shocks are so close together you will feel tenderness in the treated area for a few days. Sometime you can experience red patches that last for few days.

Laser hair removal is friendlier to the body and the patient. Laser hair removal is performed by a laser technician that also can be esthetician. This process is much faster because it can handle bigger area at one time such a legs or full back.

Laser hair removal involves less of pain during or after the procedure. Also newer lasers such as ones at Go Laser Salons are equipped with chilled tip that num you skin and make this procedure even more comfortable. I will not say that treatment is painless as many clinics untruthfully advertise, but definitely easier on patient.

The only precaution you must take is to follow your laser technician advice before and after the procedure regarding the Sun and tanning.

Also do not wax or tweeze your hair few weeks before laser treatment. If you do this laser light can not find a target to destroy follicle and treatment will be ineffective. Shaving or clipping is ok.
